ABOUT EMPOWER+
The EMPOWER+ project is a 24-month initiative funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in the field of Youth program.
Our mission is to foster the development of Rural Youth Parliaments in Sub-Saharan African countries. We believe that geographic distance should not mean political distance. By promoting youth participation in democratic processes, we ensure that young people in rural areas are equipped with the skills and resources to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the global stage.
Through a structured combination of research, non-formal education, and transnational collaboration, EMPOWER+ aligns with the EU Youth Strategy to support non-formal learning and promote active engagement in rural development.
A Transnational Consortium Connecting Europe and Africa
EMPOWER+ is implemented by a consortium of organisations from Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa working together to strengthen youth participation in rural areas.
Led by GAL Napoca Porolissum (Romania), the partnership brings together youth organisations, local authorities, and training experts from countries including Italy, Greece, Nigeria, Botswana, Mauritius and, Madagascar.
Together, they combine international experience and local knowledge to support young people in shaping the future of their communities.
Empowering Through Experience
EMPOWER+ brings young people together through international meetings, training sessions, and hands-on learning activities. Participants explore democratic participation, media literacy, and youth advocacy while exchanging experiences between Europe and Africa.
Through workshops, policy dialogues, and parliamentary simulations, young people gain the skills and confidence to take an active role in their communities and influence local development.
From Research to Action
EMPOWER+ follows a step-by-step approach to strengthen youth participation in rural communities. The project starts by analysing existing youth policies and resources, then provides training and exchanges for youth workers and young leaders from Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Building on this knowledge, the project supports the creation of Rural Youth Parliaments and a digital platform where young people can connect, share ideas, and contribute to local decision-making.
